Option B '' A Rose for Emily"
Emily poisons Homer with arsenic, “ I want some poison,” (William Faulkner, 1930). When the druggist tells Emily that the law requires him to ask her what the poison is for, she respond by staring at him, “ Miss Emily just stared at him, her head tilted back n order to look him eye for eye, until he looked away and went and got the arsenic and wrapped it up” (Faulkner,1930.) I enjoyed this part of the story because it reinforces the idea of the edict and social norms that made Emily’s isolation possible. Even when the man who granted Emily exemption from taxes dies, the new people who run the city try and collect. She is allowed to just tell them to leave because the edict of the time demanded that they treat her like a lady. The fact that she was a lady and her social status allowed her to continue to avoid taxes and buy rat poisoning without the towns people pressing for answers. This is also shown in the situation where three of the towns people go to the judge to complain about the smell coming from Emily’s house. When three of the prominent men it the town decide to meet and talk about the situation, the younger of the three states, “ It’s simple enough, send her word to have her place cleaned up. Give her a certain time to do it in, and if she don’t.... The older judge who grew up in a time where they gave women more respect replies, “ Dammit sir, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad?” ( Faulkner, 1930.) This also shows how she was able to get away with poisoning her lover and keeping his decomposing body in a room in her house.
"The Story of an Hour"
When the author, Mary Chopin describes Mrs. Mallard's appearance and feelings in paragraph seven, she says, "suspension of intelligent thought".1 Chopin is showing how Mrs. Mallard is just spacing out. She is not thinking of anything intelligent at the moment, she is just lost in her own train of thought. Later in the story there is a passage opposite of this. "She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind, tender hands folded in death."1 Mrs. Mallard knows she will grieve when she sees her husband again, but for the time being she is excited that she can live the rest of her life as she pleases.
"Free, free, free! The vacant stare and the look of terror that had followed it went from her eyes. They stayed keen and bright. Her pulses beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch in her body."1 I picked this passage to show the story's significance. Even though Mrs. Mallard thinks at this moment that her husband is dead, she couldn't be happier about it. This proves to be true in the very end of the story when her husband turns up alive and she drops dead out of disappointment.
Option B "A Rose for Emily"
Emily poisons Homer because she didn’t want the only person who cared about her, besides her father, to leave her. When her father died, Emily didn’t want to give up his body to be buried. As it says in the book, “She told [the women] that her father was not dead.” and “she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, as people will.” (Faulkner, 1930) This tells me that Emily was not about to give up the person who cared about her most, and the same went for Homer. The book also says that Homer wasn’t a marrying man. “Then we said, ‘She will persuade him yet.’ because Homer himself had remarked- he liked men, and it was known that he drank with the younger men in the Elks’ Club-that he was not a marrying man.” (Faulkner, 1930) This may have been another factor in his demise, if he “wasn’t a marrying man” (Faulkner, 1930), Emily may have been afraid that he was going to leave her.
Option B "A Rose for Emily"
When Miss Emily said she “wants some poison” (Faulkner, 1930) I knew that someone was going to die. The quote “and that was the last we saw of Homer Barron” (Faulkner,1930) confirms my assumption. She killed him because she was obsessed with him, because he was the first person to show interest in her after her father had died. Her father had her confined to the house and drove away anybody who may have had an interest in her, so when he died she was left with nothing. She did not want Homer to leave her so she did what was probably the only thing she could think of to keep him, she killed him. In the end we can see she was obsessed.
Option B: “A Rose for Emily”
Emily’s father had more or less kept her locked up and when he died, she was left alone. When she finally found her sweetheart, he quit on her. Miss Emily couldn’t handle this so she killed him. By the end of the story the reader learns that it was more than love, it was a deadly obsession. Her strand of hair was found on the pillow next to Homers dead body that held the shape of holding someone (Faulkner, 1930). This is when the story all begins to pull together. The reader finally understands what has happened and why.

Story of an Hour
In this story, Kate Chopin writes about Mrs. Mallard, using the words, “suspension of intelligent thought.” (Chopin, 1894) I believe that this means that she was not in reality nor was she thinking in reality. All she was seeing were the benefits to her husband’s death. The passage that is the opposite of this is, “She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind, tender hands folded in death; the face that had never looked save with love upon her, fixed and gray and dead.” She shows some emotion for her husband.
“When the doctor’s came they said she had died of heart disease-of joy that kills.” (Chopin, 1894) This is what the story is all about. The shock of the joy of being free being ripped right out from under her is what killed her, not the joy of seeing her husband alive.
The first day I remember I was really kind of excited, even though I had to be there at five-thirty in the morning. I was exited to meet new people and even excited to wear my new pink scrubs. Since I had never been to a nursing home I didn’t know quite what to expect.
Through out the day I got to spend some time visiting with a couple of the residents. They really touched my heart. I think they really liked my company too. There was one fellow I especially will never forget. He had just come to the home that night from the hospital because he had fallen and was badly bruised. He really took a liking to me and would follow me around and did not want to sit at all. I took him to have coffee and cookies. He put his arm around me and asked me how I had gotten there and if I had a bike outside. He kept leading me to the door and said “if you get us out of here, I can buy the coffee and we can go to my place”. The sad part was that he was serious.
The whole experience really saddened me. I cried that night when I went home. I don’t think that the residents get enough attention. They need people to visit with for their emotional well being. I think the nursing homes should have employees there just to make their rounds and simply to visit or to read to the residents.
I now know I don’t ever want my family or myself to be in a nursing home, but sometimes there are no other options I guess. I also don’t think I want to work in a nursing home. On the other hand I have really been thinking that I would like to volunteer to visit or maybe to read to the residents if that’s possible. That would really make me feel good.

Diagnostic Essay
Every year my mom, dad, sister, and I would pack up our bus that my dad remodeled into a camper, and headed up to bear camp. At the time, my sister and I were too young to stay up until we got there, so we had to go to bed in the bunks in the back. The next morning we woke up at the flowing well at bear camp. It was like a second home to us. Ever since before I can remember, my family has been going to kelliher to go bear hunting. I have heard stories from my parents about my mom and dad going up there when my mom was pregnant with me.
Ashley and I always went with to bait. We would follow everyone else into the bait, my dad pointed out tracks and trails where the bears were coming in, and everyone discussed possible trees to set up a stand in for the hunt. My mom usually gave us (Ashley and I) tips on safety and what to do if we were to get lost. She always told us, and still does to this day, to bring a rope with every time in case we get lost so we can tie ourselves to a tree and wait for someone to find us, instead of freaking out and running. When I was old enough, my mom and dad took me with them when they went out to hunt. This is where I learned a lot about hunting.
Hunting together as a family has made my family a very close team. I really believe that hunting as a family brings a family closer together. It is a very good bonding experience. Spending time with family and friends in the outdoors enjoying nature, enjoying what God made for us is really an amazing experience. I am so great full that my parents have taught me so much about hunting and nature and animals and what hunting is all about. We still go to Kelliher every year to bear hunt.

The most important thing I have done recently
Many things got in my way in the pursuit of a college education. Having a family, working full-time, money, time, and of course procrastination. The old saying, “You are your own worst enemy”, comes to mind. I had every excuse in the book, but I had an inspiring older sister, who went back, and is now finishing up on her masters, to give me a swift kick –if she could do it, so could I.
Before I even discussed it with my husband, Chris, I went and talked with an advisor at MSCTC, to see what was available through online courses. I figured this was the one way that I could make it work in my busy life. I found out what I needed to do: Apply for school, then financial aid, and the next thing I new I was a college student again, after just a few years (okay, try twenty years).
My family was wonderful and very supportive about my decision. It did take a little work, to have them all help a bit more around the house. Sometimes, they feel a bit neglected, but we are all getting used to me having study time. I didn’t let anyone from work know about my going back to school until after I had completed my first semester. I wanted to prove to myself first that my school didn’t interfere with my job. They too have been supportive to my endeavors.
Finally, I had to conquer my love of procrastination. Fortunately for me, I have been working on it for years. I find that tackling the toughest perceived assignment first is a great stepping stone to my success.
Now here today, I am happy to say that I am in the last semester of my first college goal, and will graduate with an Associate of Science degree in Human Resources. I do plan on continuing on with my education in the pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management.

Diagnostc Essay
America in the 1960’s was going through many social and cultural changes. This time shaped everything from civil rights to music. Being able to visit this time would allow me the opportunity to witness some of the most important events in Americas history.
One of the things I would have to see and experience would be Martin Luther King J.R.’s speech son racial equality. When he gave his “ I have a dream” speech it was very inspirational to many people. This inspiration was instrumental in the civil rights movement.
Another place I would have to see is Woodstock. This concert brought together some of the most amazing performers in the history of music. Artists like Jimi Hendrix, and Santana put on legendary performances that would be remembered forever.
In 1964 the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. This is one of the most memorable performances in rocks history. It was universally known as the event that launched the Beatles career. Watching them perform would be an unforgettable experience.
There are hundreds of events throughout the worlds history that would be amazing to see. While each one is unique and would offer unforgettable memories, the 1960’s in America is the time that s most important to me.
My Dream Job
My Dream Job
Technology today is quickly advancing and hard to keep up with. For example, it costs a lot of money to keep up with technology. They are always coming out with new things like the MacBook Tablet, and the constant advancements of computers. I find it entertaining to use, fix, and repair this kind of technology. I would like to find a job that deals with these things, a job dealing with computers.
I have always been interested in computer repair just because, from a young age, I have known how to do from watching other people fix them. I find it the easiest thing to do on a computer, but something that can be very frustrating at times. It is usually the cheapest work to have done a computer in the three areas of computers I would like to work in.
The second area of computers I would like to work in is computer security. Computer security is keeping servers or computers safe from people that want to do bad to the system or steal something. It is a little bit more challenging to do than repair, but I like that you have to think like you are the person who is trying to break in, so you can make it so no one can break in.
My third and last area of computers I would like to work with is programming. Programming to me is the most difficult of the three, but that is why I like it; it gives me a challenge that I have to overcome. It is the thing I have had the least experience in but so far I have really enjoyed learning computer programming,
I enjoy working with people and helping people with their computer problems. With the three areas of computers, repair, security, and programming, I can mainly meet the needs of any computer problem and be able to help almost anyone. Also, I enjoy all areas of computers, so being able to work with all areas of computers instead of just one specific area is very important to me.
My Dream Job
I have always loved taking pictures of nature but the past few years I have been interested in it more. Whenever I would go on a trip or even in my backyard, I would take landscape pictures and close up pictures. Unfortunately, I have a regular digital camera so when I zoom in on objects, that picture looks good on the display, but when I print the picture, it’s blurry.
Of course photography has its challenges such as money and the weather. If I decided I wanted to be a serious photographer, I would have to buy a higher quality camera than just a regular digital camera. Digital cameras take good pictures but taking close up pictures of objects such as plants or flowers, it can be tricky. As I have said before the picture may look good on the camera but when it’s printed out, that object is a little blurry. Also, if I wanted to be a full-time nature photographer, I probably would be starving for money at first. I would need a part-time job in order to pay the bills, buy food, etc., until I am able to bring my full attention to photography. The weather sometimes would not cooperate but I could shoot amazing pictures as well. If I was taking pictures of mountains or any kind of landscape but it started to rain, I could take pictures of puddles, creeks, rivers or rain droplets.
If I could be a photographer without money problems, family obligations, and other obstacles, I would be taking photographs in a heart beat as a living. I plan on buying a better camera so I could take better pictures for myself and maybe someday for others!
If you had the necessary time, money, etc. to write any book, what book would you write?
By finding the types of cancer, I would be able to find out how each type works and whether or not it is terminal. For example, if someone contracts pancreatic cancer, it is almost always terminal, but if someone were to find out how the cancer works and find its weakness, we might be able to come up with a lasting cure.
After finding the weaknesses of cancer we could begin to develop new treatments and expand on older treatments, such as chemo therapy and radiation, to make them more effective. This could not only save millions of lives, but also prevent the sadness and suffering of millions more people from losing a close friend or family member.
Recently, gene therapy has been discovered and used in cancer patients. It is an amazing new treatment and has been said to cure cancer in mice. My uncle had gene therapy used on him, but unfortunately it did not cure his prostate cancer. I hope eventually we will come up with a bullet proof cure.
After finishing my book about the types of cancer, types of treatments, and new treatment discoveries, anyone who wanted to know something about cancer, would be able to go to one place and find what they need, my book. I realize that cancer is an extremely broad topic and there have already been billions of dollars spent on research and development of cures, but if I could collect everyone’s research and make a book that included everything there is to know about cancer, I believe it could help the world immensely. This is because all the research would be in one place and if I did indeed have unlimited time, money, and resources, I would want to write about something that could be very meaningful and potentially have a worldwide impact on peoples’ health.

My Dream Job
First of all, I would love to be a pharmacist because I would be dealing with many challenges. As a pharmacist, I would go through many challenges. They would include making the decision on peoples medications. A pharmacist must be able to choice how much of a medication and if it reacts to any other medicine. I enjoy facing challenges and solving some of them.
Besides the challenges I’d like to be a pharmacist because I’d get to communicate and get to know people. I’m a talkative person who will talk to anyone. I love it when I can get to know someone by name and greet them with it. A pharmacist meets that goal and it’s something that I’d have to have in a job.
Even though it allows me to communicate and face challenges, it’s something I’ve always kind of wanted to do. I had things that I wanted to do. I had things that I wanted to go into besides a pharmacist but they didn’t meet all the things I wanted in a job. A pharmacist did and it’s something I am going to go into. I’ve put away all restrictions so I can make my dream job become reality to me.
In conclusion, my dream job is a pharmacist because of the challenges, the communication and because it is my dream job. I knew restrictions can’t get in the way and that’s why I’m going to be a pharmacist.
My Dream Job
My Doggie Daycare
Working from home would be great. I wouldn't have to send my soon to be daughter to daycare. She could learn firsthand how special dogs are. Also how each one has a very distinct personality. Lucy and Mia would love having us home. They would also appreciate other dogs coming over every day to play. Both my girls are very social dogs.
Country living has always been my preference. My family and I could buy a piece of land to run the dog daycare. We would all get plenty of room to run, making us a healthier family. The girls love running, so they would really like the extra room. That would give them a bigger fetch area too.
I have always had a special connection with animals. I honestly feel I was meant to work with them. My day is better when I spend it with my girls. They are always happy and fun to be around. Most importantly they never judge, they like everyone.
If I could choose any job I wanted, I would run a dog day care. Spending time at home with my family and other people's animals would be a wonderful way to live! I could raise my daughter myself and I wouldn't have to look at the sad faces of Lucy and Mia when I head out the door every morning.

College Writing 11
The most important thing I have learned from my recent past is that whatever happens is what was supposed to happen and that there is no point in dwelling over something you can not change. You can go for hours on end thinking of the “what ifs” and the “if I could just redo that” but in the end it is not going to help the situation at all. I used to be a person who would dwell on a situation for hours until I found a quote in a magazine that changed everything for me.
For as long as I can remember I have worried about everything that could happen to me or the people I love, sometimes it got to the point where I could not sleep for weeks. One day I was reading a magazine and I saw a quote and it gave me a new perspective on life and I was so amazed how something that seems so small could have taken me by such surprise. The quote was “Remember whoever comes are the right people, whatever happens is the only thing that could have, whenever it starts is the right time and when its over, its over”.
That quote made me realize that all the hours I spend worrying about pointless things are hours I could be spending doing something that really matters. There is no telling what extent this lesson will take me as it was not long ago that I realized this but I know this is and will forever be the most important lesson I will take away from everything in life.
I have learned that I can not change what has already been done and that I can take away the lessons I learned from a mistake and make sure they do not happen the next time. I no longer spend hours worrying about things that have already happen or are in the future because I know that whatever happens is what was supposed to and there is no changing that.
Now that the quote “remember whoever comes are the right people, whatever happens is what was supposed to, whenever it starts is the right time and when its over, its over” has been burned into my brain, I can spend those hours I used to spend worrying, doing homework or spending time with my loved ones. In my short 18 years of life I think I have learned a lesson that I will never forget.

Memorable Event
I got my first horse when I was about twenty-five years old. She was a mare, dark brown in color, her name was Ginger. My husband showed me how to tack her up with riding gear, how to sit properly and use the reins.
We went out for my first ride. Ginger and I did great. She listened to me, even though I had no clue what I was doing. She just followed the other horse and I was fine with that.
My husband pointed out rules, while riding. Don't let her eat when she's walking. Make sure she listens to your commands. Make her go the way you want , otherwise she will get spoiled and think she can do what she wants.
I just nodded my head yes. But at that point I didn't care what she did as long as I stayed upright on the horse. I was so happy to finally own a horse and be able to ride one without freaking out. Due to the fact that horses are large animals and weight a ton.
One day we decided to trailer the horses to my mom and step-dads. We were going to help round up cattle. We tacked up the horses and were ready to ride.
I was sitting on Ginger in the coral and my husband came by with his horse kinda fast. I don't know what exactly happened next, Ginger started bucking and I couldn't hang on. I hit the dirt ground with a thump. I had knocked the wind out of my self. My husband jumped off his horse and came running over to me. Asking me if I was hurt, all I could do was shake my head, due to my air was slightly gone at that point.
My horse at that time, had taken off around the building. My step-dad, caught up with her and calmed her down. As I got off the ground and started to walk over to my horse, I told my husband I was never getting on that horse again. My step-dad told me to get on her and not to let her get away with doing that. He said, "You have to show her who's boss." I looked at him like he was crazy. But I got on Ginger with wobbly legs and rode off with her and the others, to round up cattle. I wasn't a happy cowgirl.
We did sell that horse, Ginger. I got a new horse, a better one. I did get better at riding and soon fell in love with horses. I have been bucked off since but if it wasn't for my step-dad, I wouldn't be the cowgirl I am today.
